Ramon Powers papers, 1914B - 2003.

Dr. Powers' personal papers include copies of the university newspaper from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC); administrative materials related to teaching and working at Haskell University in Lawrence and at UMKC, including memoranda and correspondence, manuals and policies, meeting minutes, copies of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) bulletins, grant proposals, records related to employment uncertainties at Haskell as it underwent organizational change, Faculty Senate and committee materials, and other such records; correspondence and materials from the various professional associations in which Dr. Powers was involved, such as the Western History Association and the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH); personal correspondence and cards; notes and some research material; and other such materials. Also included in the collection are records and materials from when Dr. Powers worked with the Legislative Research Department in Kansas, including appointment calendars, memoranda and correspondence, reports and studies, research notes and reference materials, proposals, and other such records. Two small accretions to the collection include materials concerning the Franklin Adams family in Topeka (Adams was the first Secretary to the Kansas Historical Society) and a Gove County resident's memoirs.

Dr. Ramon Powers received his first two academic degrees from Fort Hays State University and taught at the University of Missouri-Kansas City while receiving his doctorate from the University of Kansas in Lawrence. After graduation he taught at the Haskell Indian Junior College for a few years before joining the Legislative Research Department under the Kansas Legislature.
